Material Memory:
The Fluid Boundaries of Identity and Transformation

Danielle Mano Bella explores identity, transformation, and perception through material memory and human experience. By merging biochemical materials with visual storytelling, she examines the fluidity of self, community, and nature.

Danielle Mano Bella’s art unravels the layers of identity, exploring the fluid connections between individuals, communities, and their environments. Through photography, installations, and biochemical materials, she examines personal and collective transformation, drawing parallels between material memory and human experience. By integrating innovative silk-based materials that shift and evolve with air and water, her work becomes a living exploration of perception, resilience, and change. Transcending representation, she invites viewers to reflect on the shifting nature of belonging, memory, and the ways we shape—and are shaped by—the world around us.
