James Tapscott’s land-based installations dissolve the boundary between artwork and environment, using elemental forces like mist, light, and water to create sensory encounters that are as ephemeral as they are profound. BIO
James Tapscott (b. 1980, Perth, Australia) is a multidisciplinary land artist whose immersive installations fuse natural elements—light, mist, wind, and water—with site-determined sculptural interventions. Working internationally for over 15 years, Tapscott creates sensory experiences that heighten awareness of place and perception.
His work have been featured in major exhibitions and festivals across Asia, Europe, the U.S., and Australia, including permanent commissions in Shenzhen, Kaohsiung, and Perth. Tapscott is also the founder and curator of Globelight, a biennial light art and design show dedicated to promoting sustainable and innovative approaches to environmental art.
PUBLICATIONS
James Tapscott’s work has been featured in numerous international art and design publications. His Arc ZERO series and Ice Core Studies were recently highlighted in photo·synthesis, an exhibition-accompanied catalogue exploring his use of light and natural phenomena in photography. His practice was the focus of a comprehensive feature in CODAworx Magazine, where Tapscott discussed environmental sustainability in public art. In Art Collector Magazine, his work was recognized for its innovation in land art and use of ephemeral materials. He has also been profiled by New and Abstract, UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art, and Art Guide Australia, among others, showcasing the depth and evolution of his approach to site-determined installations and experiential sculpture.
