Disrupted Structures:
Unpacking the Boundaries Between Minimalism, Materiality, and Manipulation

Monique Lacey’s sculptures blur the line between creation and destruction; transforming ordinary materials into provocative statements about truth, materiality, and artifice.

Through acts of construction and destruction, Monique Lacey’s sculptures challenge perceptions of truth, value, and materiality. By manipulating cardboard boxes with plaster, paint, resin, and other materials, she transforms mundane objects into intricate pieces that blur the boundaries between authenticity and artifice. Her practice subverts Minimalism’s rigid principles, embracing physical intervention and playful deconstruction. Lacey’s work invites viewers to question the integrity of materials and the distorted realities they represent.
