Dissolving Boundaries:
Painting the Invisible

For Reiner Heidorn, painting is a way to dissolve into nature; merging the human spirit with the hidden worlds of plants and microorganisms.
Reiner Heidorn is a German painter whose monumental oil paintings explore the fragile yet profound coexistence between humanity and the microscopic life forms that surround us. Drawing inspiration from microscope images of plants and freshwater, he has developed a unique painting technique he calls Dissolutio, Latin for disappearance.
In these works, tiny cellular forms expand into vast abstractions, flowing with shades of green and blue that suggest forests, lakes, and entire ecosystems. Through this practice, Heidorn reflects on humanity’s connection to nature while addressing pressing themes such as climate change and alienation from the natural world. His paintings are both meditations on fragility and invitations to rediscover our place within larger ecological rhythms.

DISSOLVING INTO NATURE

Heidorn’s paintings invite viewers to look closer, not only at the canvas but at the fragile coexistence between humans and the smallest organisms in our environment. His abstractions are not static but alive, composed of microscopic gestures that expand into entire worlds. By dissolving form into fluidity, Heidorn’s work creates a space where ecological urgency meets meditative stillness, where disappearance becomes a form of presence.
