Adrián Guerrero

The Space of Perception:

A practice that dissolves the boundaries between concept, object, and interpretation.

Blurring the boundaries between concept and material, Adrián Guerrero examines the phenomenology of perception. His works translate philosophical inquiry into sculptural form, turning abstract thought into physical, experiential space.

Adrián Guerrero’s work moves between philosophy and form, exploring how ideas can inhabit physical space. Through ceramics, bronze, and copper, he creates objects that question the boundaries between thought and material, mind and matter. His practice transforms abstract notions of time, perception, spatiality into tangible experiences, where the viewer’s relationship with context becomes an essential part of meaning. Each piece exists as both gesture and idea, inviting reflection on how thought takes shape in the world.

BIO

Adrián Guerrero Castellanos (b. 1975, Guadalajara, Mexico) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, installation, and philosophy-driven conceptual inquiry. A graduate of the University of Guadalajara, Guerrero has developed a body of work that bridges material experimentation and theoretical reflection.
His research centers on the phenomenology of perception—how form and space shape understanding—while his sculptural language integrates ceramics, bronze, and copper as mediums of philosophical exploration.

Guerrero has exhibited internationally, including at Museo Cabañas (Guadalajara, 2023) with El tiempo no es nada, a mid-career retrospective; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de San Luis Potosí; Palazzo Bembo at the Venice Biennale (2012); and the Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale (Korea, 2011), among others. His work continues to expand the dialogue between art, material, and metaphysics.

PUBLICATIONS

Adrián Guerrero’s work has been exhibited extensively across Latin America, Europe, and Asia, reflecting an evolving dialogue between philosophy, space, and materiality. His practice has been featured in institutional retrospectives such as El tiempo no es nada at the Cabañas Museum (Guadalajara, 2023) and solo shows like Morar at the Museum of Contemporary Art of San Luis Potosí. Guerrero has also participated in major international events including the Venice Biennale (Palazzo Bembo, 2012) and the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea (2011). His trajectory, marked by both sculptural experimentation and conceptual precision, has positioned him as one of the key Mexican artists expanding the boundaries between object, idea, and perception.

BETWEEN IDEA AND MATTER

Guerrero’s work navigates the porous boundary between thought and form. Each sculpture, painting, or installation emerges as a philosophical inquiry made tangible—a meditation on how ideas inhabit space and how material becomes a vessel for abstraction. Through ceramics, metal, and minimalist gestures, he constructs a language where perception is questioned, and the act of seeing becomes an act of thinking. In this balance between the visible and the conceptual, Guerrero transforms philosophy into a sensory experience, allowing form itself to reflect the movement of thought.
