Keisuke Matsuura

The Geometry of Emptiness:
A dialogue between structure, energy, and the unseen rhythms of nature.

The geometric forms within these works are not static compositions; they are active participants in an ongoing dialogue between material and energy.

Keisuke Matsuura’s practice explores the intersection of geometry and energy, where lines, circles, and spatial structures interact with invisible forces such as air currents, gravity, and light. His work embraces both precision and unpredictability, allowing natural phenomena to shape and transform each piece over time. By integrating elements of chance, Matsuura reveals the unseen rhythms of the environment, creating visual harmonies that transcend the static nature of form. His exploration of “kÅ«” (emptiness) is not about absence, but about the unseen energies that exist in the spaces between.

BIO

Keisuke Matsuura (b. 1970, Kyoto) is a Japanese artist exploring the interplay between material structures and immaterial forces. He studied at Tama Art University and later at the Düsseldorf Academy under Christian Megert and Daniel Buren. Influenced by the ZERO movement, his work engages with energy fields, light, and geometric forms.

His notable exhibitions include Resonance at the 7th Socle du Monde Biennale (2017) and Walter Leblanc – Keisuke Matsuura: Resonance at the Walter Leblanc Foundation (2020). Through his compositions of lines, squares, and circles, Matsuura creates visual rhythms that blur the boundaries between the visible and the invisible.

THE ECHO OF FORM â€‹

Matsuura’s work extends beyond physical materials, engaging with the invisible forces that shape perception. By manipulating light, shadow, and spatial relationships, his compositions create an interplay between stability and flux. Each piece is an evolving entity—reacting to its surroundings, shifting with the viewer’s perspective, and dissolving rigid boundaries between structure and environment.
