Nina Urlichs
Traces In Motion:
A lyrical exploration of the human body through fading gestures, fragmented memories, and ephemeral layers of emotion.

In Urlichs’ work, the body is not simply depicted; it is dissolved, reimagined through gestures, transparency, and trace, echoing cycles of transformation.
Nina Urlichs’ practice revolves around the expressive potential of the human body, captured through her unique blend of abstract calligraphy, layered transparencies, and ephemeral traces. Drawing from her early background in fashion design and her engagement with the “new figuration” movement in Germany, she constructs delicate compositions that feel both raw and poetic. Faded brushstrokes, torn collages, and washed-out pigments drift across canvas and paper, evoking cycles of emergence and dissolution. Her use of translucent materials invites light to become part of the work, revealing an intimate dialogue between the inner self and the surrounding world. Through this interplay of fragility and force, Urlichs explores the fleeting beauty of gesture, memory, and identity.
